If you’re like me, I never keep business cards. Unless they are really important, I usually throw them away right after I get them. That’s screwed me over a few times when I actually was looking for a contact from a business card I threw away. The most recent was a guy I had remove dents out of my car. I wish I had kept his business card to remove more dents! The days of the Rolodex was before my time so I have no good way to organize business cards even if I did keep them. Now I don’t have to keep a stack of business cards around. I can use a business card scanning app. This is where the World Card Mobile app comes in. This will make keeping contacts from business cards much easier.

World Card Mobile does a decent job of scanning contacts from a business card. It recognized the correct contact, phone number, email, address, and position. The key to getting World Card Mobile to recognize the card details is to get a good picture. Even if your picture is a little blurry, World Card Mobile won’t recognize the details. World Card Mobile allows you to recognize contacts by either taking a picture from the World Card Mobile app or reading from your phones gallery of a picture of a business card you took with your phones camera app. This is where World Card Mobile doesn’t perform very well. It was difficult to take a good picture of a business card unless I had a bright light shining on the card. Otherwise, if it wasn’t completely bright, it couldn’t take a good picture. The World Card Mobile camera doesn’t have an option to use the flash either. So I found it best to take a picture of a business card with my phones default camera app, using the flash if necessary. Then going back to the World Card Mobile app and recognizing the card from my camera gallery. World Card Mobile would only read cards from my default camera in portrait mode.

World Card Mobile allows you to export the contact to specific groups in your contact. This is a global setting though. It’d be better if I could choose the group to export the card to every time I scan a card. If I want to change the group, I have to go back to the main page to go to the settings.

Here is a picture of the business card I took and the contact:

5.99 seems to be pretty comparable to what most business card apps are charging, and I’m sure this one works! If you’re looking for a way to easily and electronically organize business cards, I’m sure you’d be happy with World Card Mobile.
